What to expect when you hire a maid

Having lived in another country where almost everyone who can afford it have maids,there are several tips I’d wish to share about what to expect from a maid as well as what NEVER to ask them to do. These are based on my personal experience and not from any
” class=”embLink” rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank”>formal sociological study</a></p>
<p> daily laundry, cooking, baby sitting, and cleaning. Also specify how many hours your maid’s working hours OR if you’re hiring her as a “live in maid”. There are some maids who prefer to live with their employers because the employer is obligated to give her free meals, free decent place to sleep (room), and a day “off”. Determine and ask your maid what day she prefers as her free day. Most maids will choose Sundays but should you happen to get a Muslim maid from Indonesia, for instance, you’d have to give her Fridays off. </p>
<p>4. If your maid is an import you may have problems communicating with her in the English language so keep instructions short and clear. Remember that the easiest (English speaking) maid-imports are those from Mexico, India, and Manila. Remember that maids from these countries are usually smart. They may cost higher than other maids who do not know English (Shrilanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Latvia) but they’re extremely smarter and more reliable. </p>
<p>5.Do not ask your maid anything outside the contract you’ve agreed on. For instance,do not ask your maid to give you a body massage. It is taboo to demand that your maid does things (even if it’s scratching your back)that they may perceive in their culture as “intimate”. That means, if you’re in the shower, don’t ask her to hand you a towel while you’re taking a bath. </p>
<p>6.Treat your maid fairly but remember the old adage : “familiarity breeds contempt”. Do not confide personal secrets to your maid because they could gossip. If you’re depressed and you need someone to speak with, go to your pastor or therapist instead. </p>
<p>7.Pay your maid on time. You may give your maid extra “bonuses” during the holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas. It is also alright to give your maid “tips” for an extremely well done job(like cooking during thanksgiving), but do not make it something that she can expect every time she does “great work”. </p>
<p>Having a maid is a convenience if you get the right one. The best maids are those closer to your beliefs, language and culture. If you happen to be a Christian (or a secular person) who eats Ham and Turkey during Christmas do not hire a Muslim maid. She won’t cook the bacon for you. Catholic countries like Mexico, Philippines, Puerto Rico offers the best helpers for your household. Should you happen to be a Muslim, you can hire maids from Indonesia,Pakistan, or Bangladesh. </p>
